March Madness
So the annual NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has started, and some decent upsets so far, but nothing too earthshaking. This is my favorite time of year, so of course my wife has been trying to sabotage it ever since we’ve been married. Almost without fail, she either schedules a family visit, trip to the in-laws or this year, a night out with girlfriends who’ve roped the rest of their families into the event.
I have long held March Madness sacred. Ever since I graduated college, I would take the first two days of the tournament off from work. People always asked me what I was going to do or where I was going on my vacation, and I would tell them I was going to watch basketball non-stop and eat lots of salty, bad foods. And for quite some time this worked very well. Especially since it was Central Standard Time. Have I ever mentioned I love CST?
And then I got married. Ever since then my interest has waned due to a combination of said wife’s machinations and two children. Children don’t understand basketball and the particular joy of March Madness. They like to run around the room, zipping back and forth across my field of vision, not to mention the endless request for iCarly, Spongebob, etc. Eventually I will retire to the computer where CBS Sports reigns. Now that I can watch games on the computer, life is better. It’s even better that I can watch at work because we don’t have a strict monitoring policy. Love the boss key too, having used it several times in the last two days.
So, all over the place with this one, but if you haven’t watched the first two days of this tournament, you’re missing something even with BCS detritus edging out the cool smaller schools. You still see upsets and it’s still the best game in town. Watch it. But make sure you have cold beverages and snacks nearby and a clear field of vision.
